The story
Real Madrid have proposed Rafael Nadal for their board of directors, with members due to consider the appointment later this month.
BBC Sport reports that the retired tennis champion thanked president Florentino Perez and the existing board for putting him forward. Nadal is a long-standing Real supporter and club member.
Approval remains a separate step
The proposal does not mean the appointment has already been completed. Members will be asked to approve it at the forthcoming meeting.
Nadal retired from tennis in 2024 after a career that included 22 Grand Slam singles titles and two Olympic gold medals. A board position would give him a formal role at the football club he has supported since childhood.
