Japan target a first Cardiff victory against Wales

The story

Eddie Jones wants Japan to achieve a first win over Wales in Cardiff when the sides meet on Saturday.

BBC Sport reports that this will be their fourth meeting in sixteen months. Japan have beaten Wales at home, but a victory at the Principality Stadium has remained out of reach.

A narrow defeat provides recent context

The previous Cardiff meeting ended 24–23 to Wales after a late Jarrod Evans penalty in November 2025. Jones is calling for energy and clarity from the start as Japan try to change that record.

Wales sit two places above Japan in the world rankings. Both teams have recorded wins over Fiji and Italy this year, giving the fixture a competitive backdrop beyond the hosts’ historical advantage at the venue.
