The story

Jesus de Miguel’s family, team-mates and figures from Spanish football gathered for his funeral in Navahermosa on Thursday.

The Tenerife forward died aged 30 after suffering a serious injury during Monday’s second-division match against FC Andorra. BBC Sport reports that his team-mates carried his coffin before the service at San Miguel Arcangel.

Spanish football remembers the forward

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente and representatives from major Spanish clubs were among those attending. A statement issued on behalf of De Miguel’s family thanked people for their support and for remembering him.

The service took place in his parents’ hometown in Toledo province. The family’s tribute focused on the lasting impression he had made on the people around him.
