Russell and Tuipulotu return as Scotland prepare for New Zealand

The story

Finn Russell and captain Sione Tuipulotu return to Scotland’s starting side for Saturday’s meeting with New Zealand.

BBC Sport reports that Gregor Townsend expects an ambitious All Blacks side, describing opponents who have built cohesion through their recent Test programme. Scotland are seeking their first victory in the fixture.

Experience comes back into the backs

Russell and Tuipulotu did not start Scotland’s previous match against Fiji in July. Townsend has also restored several other familiar players, including Kyle Steyn, Huw Jones and Ben White.

The coach expects New Zealand to have periods of possession and says Scotland need ways to stay competitive throughout the game. The returning players give the hosts experience in key decision-making positions for that challenge.
