Zverev responds to scrutiny after reaching number one

The story
Alexander Zverev has expressed frustration at the response to his rise to world number one after losing his opening Paris Masters match.
BBC Sport reports that Lorenzo Musetti defeated the German in his first match since taking the top ranking. Zverev said he felt he had been repeatedly asked to justify his position.
A ranking milestone under scrutiny
His season includes two Grand Slam titles, but it has also coincided with injury problems for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The report distinguishes Zverev’s strong record against lower-ranked opponents from a more difficult record against the top ten.
The defeat in Paris does not erase his ranking achievement. It does, however, leave his comments and his results against leading rivals as part of the discussion surrounding his season.
