The story

Fenerbahce recovered to beat Liverpool 3–2 in Istanbul after the visitors had taken the lead for a second time late in the match.

Alexander Isak’s 69th-minute header appeared to put Liverpool on course for an away victory. Instead, the home side fought back under interim coach Dirk Kuyt, whose playing career included six years at Anfield.

Liverpool let the advantage slip

BBC Sport reports that Archie Brown brought Fenerbahce level before Vedat Muriqi scored the decisive header. Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola criticised the manner of the goals his side conceded.

For Kuyt, the result was a memorable victory against his former club. For Liverpool, it followed a defeat by Arsenal and left another game to review in which a promising position did not produce the expected result.
