Leicestershire’s failed appeal confirms County Championship relegation
The story
Leicestershire’s relegation from County Championship Division One is confirmed after their appeal against a points deduction failed.
BBC Sport reports that the case concerned the pitch prepared for the club’s match against Glamorgan. The appeals panel upheld the loss of the 19 points earned from that victory.
Uncertainty over the table ends
An initial punishment had included an additional eight-point penalty. Those eight points were later restored, but the remaining deduction was enough to leave Leicestershire relegated. Essex’s survival had remained unresolved while the appeal continued.
The panel also rejected the club’s attempt to introduce fresh expert evidence. Leicestershire’s chief executive Emma White expressed frustration with the process. The ruling now settles the divisional consequence after weeks of uncertainty following the season.
